FAQs about collecting books

As soon as the book you requested or reserved is ready to collect, you will receive a notification that your book is ready to collect via e-mail or post.

Please click the following link for an overviewof the hours during which we process requests and during which you can collect books. You will be notified as soon as the book you requested is ready to collect.

The Main Library keeps books you requested or reserved ready to collect for 7 days. The notification you receive specifies how long we keep the books ready for you to collect.

In individual cases, we can keep the books ready to collect for a longer period. Please contact the relevant library in due time. You can also send an e-mail to entlehnung.ub@univie.ac.at schicken.

If you have somebody else collect your books, they require

• a u:card or an official photo ID
• an authorisation to collect the books

If you want somebody else to collect books for you regularly, we can save the authorisation to collect books in your account.

The authorisation to collect books for you remains valid until further notice.

The stacks is where we store books. Usually, only library employees can access the stacks.

Therefore, you have to request books that are kept in the stacks to borrow them.

Open stacks are areas of the library that are publicly accessible. You can get the books from the shelves yourself.

You cannot request books kept in the open stacks area.

However, it is possible to reserve books that are currently borrowed at many special libraries.
