The books in the Translation Studies library are sorted alphabetically by language. Each book is assigned a call number which starts with the name of the respective language. The following capital letter is used for formal distinction:
- A = General fields of knowledge
- B = Specific, special fields of knowledge
- C = Dictionaries, textbooks
- D = Documentations
- E = Encyclopedias
- I = Vocational/Occupational topics
- S = Bibliographies
- T = Translation studies
- Ü = Translations
- MA = Master's theses
- DA = Diploma theses
- Diss = Dissertations
The capital letter is followed by the local subject classification (1-101)[PDF, in German], to which a consecutive number (numerus currens) is added.
Examples for call numbers:
- Deutsch C 90-51 call number for "Springer Klinisches Wörterbuch" (=Springer Medical Dictionary)
Language → German + C → Dictionary + 90 → subject=medicine + consecutive number
- Britisch T 77-12 call number for "Legal Translation Explained"
Language → English + T → Translation Studies + 77 → subject=law + consecutive number
